eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.
Everything is written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets
and the Psalms must be fulfilled.
And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those
who came after him, also proclaimed these days.
I will raise up for them a prophet like you
from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth,
and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers,
I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your
body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for
my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
2 Samuel 7:12-13
Even now, behold,
my witness is in heaven, and he who testifies for me is on high.
For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last, he will stand
upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in
my flesh, I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes
shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.
I will make him the firstborn,
the highest of the kings of the earth.
My steadfast love, I will keep for him forever,
and my covenant will stand firm for him.
I will establish his offspring forever
and his throne as the days of the heavens.
The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your
enemies your footstool.”The LORD sends forth from Zion your
mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies!
There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared
a lamp for my anointed. His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine.
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin
shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish.
In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun
and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time
he has made glorious the way of the sea,
the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
on them has light shined.
You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest,
as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder,
the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government
shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be calledWonderful
Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the
increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end, on
the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to
uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth
and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdomand understanding,
the Spirit of counsel andmight,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD.
He shall not judge by what his eyes see,
or decide disputes by what his ears hear,
but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for themeek of the earth.
In that day the root of Jesse,
who shall stand as a signal for the peoples – of him
shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.
And Iwill place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall
open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen,
in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him;
he will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice,
or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break,
and a faintly burning wick he will not quench;
he will faithfully bring forth justice.
He will not grow faint or be discouraged
till he has established justice in the earth.
I am the LORD; I have called you in righteousness;
I will take you by the hand and keep you;
I will give you as a covenant for the people,
a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
Thus says the LORD: “In a time of favor I have answered you; in a day
of salvation I have helped you; I will keep you and give you as a
covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the
desolate heritages, saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’ to those who
are in darkness, ‘Appear.’They shall feed along the ways; on all bare
heights shall be their pasture; they shall not hunger or thirst, neither
scorching wind nor sun shall strike them, for he who has pity on
them, will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them.
But he was wounded for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his stripes we are healed.
Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
make many to be accounted righteous,
and he shall bear their iniquities.
Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation
that did not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your
God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me
to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn.
In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely.
And this is the name by which he will be called:
‘The LORD is our righteousness.’
But they shall serve the LORD their God and David their king,
whom I will raise up for them.
As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the
sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David
my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me.
And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a
throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness
of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance.
Such was the appearance
of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.
And when I saw it, I fell on my face,
and I heard the voice of one speaking.
And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David,
and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd.
My servant David shall be king over them,
and they shall all have one shepherd.
They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes.
“I saw in the night visions, and behold,
with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”
Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD
their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the
LORD and to his goodness in the latter days.
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days…
And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the
LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God.
And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great
to the ends of the earth. And he shall be their peace.
Micah 5:2, 4-5
And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall
come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts.
Compare: ”And theWord became flesh and
dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory,
glory as of the only Son from the Father,
full of grace and truth.”
I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.
And say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Behold, the man
whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place,
and he shall build the temple of the LORD. It is he who shall build
the temple of the LORD and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit
and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne,
and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”’
And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of
Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they
look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for
him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him,
as one weeps over a firstborn.
On that day there shall be a fountain opened
for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Have you not read this Scripture: “’The stone that the builders
rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.
Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds awake when he comes.
Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service
and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them.
Nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’
for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined,
but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!
For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me:
‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’
For what is written about me has its fulfillment.”
But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated
at the right hand of the power of God.
And theWord became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we have seen his glory,
glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
No one has ever seen God;
the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
For he whom God has sent utters the words of God,
for he gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son
and has given all things into his hand.
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do
nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing.
For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
For as the Father has life in himself,
so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.
Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world.Whoever
follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man
should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.
He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that
year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one
the children of God who are scattered abroad.
And Jesus answered them,“The hour has come
for the Son of man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you,
unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies,
it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who
sent me has himself given me a commandment – what to say and
what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life.
What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.
Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be
scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone.
Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
This Jesus delivered up according to the definite plan
and foreknowledge of God,
you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name
under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt,
and have heard their groaning, and I have come down
to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt.
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth
with the Holy Spirit and with power.
He went about doing good
and healing all who were oppressed by the devil,
for God was with him.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received:
that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
He died for all, that those who live
might no longer live for themselves
but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
2 Corinthians 5:15
The Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins
to deliver us from the present evil age,
according to the will of our God and Father.
Therefore God has highly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

1 Prayer Begins with God 35
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers
or authorities – all things were created through him and for him.
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Christ, in whom are hidden
all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food
and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.
These are a shadow of the things to come,
but the substance belongs to Christ.
The glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
who gave himself for us to redeemus fromall lawlessness
and to purify for himself a people for his own possession
who are zealous for good works.
He is the radiance of the glory of God
and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe
by the word of his power. After making purification for sins,
he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
But of the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.”
For it was fitting that he, for whom
and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory,
should make the founder of their salvation
perfect through suffering.
For surely it is not angels that he helps,
but he helps the offspring of Abraham.
Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect,
so that he might become a merciful
and faithful high priest in the service of God,
to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
For because he himself has suffered when tempted,
he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through
the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with
our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted
as we are, yet without sin.
In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications,
with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from
death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he
was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.
And being made perfect, he became the source
of eternal salvation to all who obey him.
Who has become a priest,
not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent,
but by the power of an indestructible life.
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost
those who draw near to God through him,
since he always lives to make intercession for them.
Now the point in what we are saying is this:
we have such a high priest, one who is seated
at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry
that is as much more excellent than the old
as the covenant, he mediates is better,
since it is enacted on better promises.
How much more will the blood of Christ,
who through the eternal Spirit offered himself
without blemish to God,
purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
But when Christ had offered for all time
a single sacrifice for sins,
he sat down at the right hand of God,
waiting from that time until his enemies
should be made a footstool for his feet.
He is the propitiation for our sins,
and not for ours only
but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 2:2
Jesus Christ the faithful witness,
the firstborn of the dead,
and the ruler of kings on earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.
His face was like the sun shining in full strength.
I died, and behold I am alive forevermore,
and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
I began to weep loudly
because no one was found worthy
to open the scroll or to look into it.
And one of the elders said to me,
“Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah,
the Root of David has conquered,
so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
And between the throne and the four living creatures
and among the elders, I saw a Lamb standing,
as though it had been slain,
with seven horns and with seven eyes,
which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him
who was seated on the throne.
And they sang a new song, saying,
“Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals,
for you were slain and by your blood
you ransomed people for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.”
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth
and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth
and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing
and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written,
King of kings and Lord of lords.
And I saw no temple in the city,
for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it,
for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
