Yet he saved them for his name’s sake,
that he might make known his mighty power.
He sent out his word and healed them,
and delivered them from their destruction.
But Israel is saved by the LORD with everlasting salvation;
you shall not be put to shame or confounded to all eternity.
Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation
that did not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your
God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
2 The Fuel of Intercession (#1): God’s Promises 47
I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me; I was
ready to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here am I,
here am I,” to a nation that was not called by my name.
In those days and in that time, declares the LORD,
the people of Israel and the people of Judah
shall come together, weeping as they come,
and they shall seek the LORD their God.
They shall ask the way to Zion, with faces turned toward it, saying,
“Come, let us join ourselves to the LORD
in an everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.”
And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within
them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give
them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in my statutes and keep
my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people,
and I will be their God.
Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord
GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?
For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone,
declares the Lord GOD; so turn, and live.
I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in
righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will
betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD.
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of
the LORD shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there
shall be…those whom the LORD calls.
I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him
who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment,
but has passed from death to life. Truly, truly, I say to you,
an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the
voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
All that the Father gives me will come to me,
and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
No one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.
I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go
in and out and find pasture.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.Whoever
believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who
lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me.”
These are written so that youmay believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God, and that by believing youmay have life in his name.
Repent and be baptized every one of you
in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins,
and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for
you and for your children and for all who are far off,
everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.
Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted
out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the
Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus.
And the hand of the Lord was with them,
and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.
To the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.
Let it be known to you therefore, brothers,
that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.
Believe in the Lord Jesus,
and you will be saved, you and your household.
To open their eyes, so that theymay turn fromdarkness to light and
fromthe power of Satan to God, that theymay receive forgiveness of
sins and a place among thosewho are sanctified by faith inme.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel,
for it is the power of God for salvation
to everyone who believes.
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from
the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it –
the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ
for all who believe.
And to the one who does not work but believes in him who
justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the
body of sin might be brought to nothing,
so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
For sin will have no dominion over you,
since you are not under law but under grace.
Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the
body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has
been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.
There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus.
So then it depends not on human will or exertion,
but on God, who has mercy.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness
to everyone who believes.
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in
your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same
Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
So faith comes fromhearing, and hearing through theword of Christ.
Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did
not seekme; I have shownmyself to those who did not ask forme.”
The word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15:22
Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust,
we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:49
In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself,
not counting their trespasses against them,
and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:19
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21
For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
For God has not destined us for wrath,
but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:9
God our Savior who desires all people to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:3-4
Our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death
and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
2 Timothy 1:10
He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness,
but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration
and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly
through Jesus Christ our Savior.
Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost
those who draw near to God through him,
since he always lives to make intercession for them.
For this is the covenant that I willmake with the house of Israel after
those days, declares the Lord: I will putmy laws into theirminds, and
write themon their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be
my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and
each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know
me, fromthe least of themto the greatest. For I will bemerciful
toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins nomore.
He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages
to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
For by a single offering he has perfected for all time
those who are being sanctified.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness,
but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish,
but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.Whoever has the Son has life;
whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:11-12
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us
understanding, so that we may know him who is true;
and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.
He is the true God and eternal life.
1 John 5:20
Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead,
and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us
and has freed us from our sins by his blood.
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.”And let the one who hears say,
“Come.”And let the one who is thirsty come;
let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
